It's close to the Cabaret Street (which you can open if you use the secret path from Ikari Walkways' Artillery boss). From here, you can quickly rush through Union Park (avoiding Artillery blasts) to enter the library (Atheneum).(4) Alma Mater Atrium (outside Union Park) - This is a small building that's close to the Consumer boss arena. In fact, you'd see the chamber itself before you activate the switch for the bridgehead. This is also near one of the Black Hole Hour chambers. This is close to the Artillery boss which has pathways leading to Alma Mater Atrium's secret entrances (more on this below) or Arcology - Underside where you'll find the EVA Suit blueprint, as well as the Nervous Wiring and Aegis Armature set. This will connect the broken bridge spot (with the savepoint) and the back area of the zone. (3) Ikari Walkways (broken bridge) - If you loop around the area, you'll be able to find a switch that creates a bridgehead to cross the gap. You can revisit the Architect here to do his sidequest for his armor set. This is close to two Black Hole Hour chambers. It's also where you meet the Architect for the first time: (2) Sohn District (spaceport/tram/control center) - This is after killing the Arisen Congregators. This is also close to the elevator that takes you to the Eye Code control center where you can use codes for the Black Hole Hour beams/opening secret areas. This is close to the NPC/vendor that lets you obtain boss items from their fragments. You'll use your second passport to go to Sohn District or Ikari Walkways (the one you didn't pick earlier).(1) Arcology bridge (just after the Celestial Beast fight) - You'll be going back here very often because: Next, let's talk about some ideal breach points to use synchronizers on: That means you won't need to use synchronizers on other breach points that are nearby since, well, you can just backtrack. Fast travel, then, becomes a pain in the butt.įirst, Hellpoint has several auto-synced breach points, which means you won't need to use a synchronizer on them. If you run out of synchronizers, you'd find yourself backtracking through countless corridors and hallways, likely getting pounced on by so many mobs until you reach your destination. IMO, a major problem that Hellpoint has, especially for your first playthrough, is that you're never sure of which breaches/rifts to sync.

Miller is the founder and lead consultant of Christina T. First trained as an artist, she brings creative problem solving to her work on gold supply chains, jewelry, and community organizing for Amazon Aid Foundation. While agoutis depend on Amazonian forests to provide shelter and food, the forests depend on agoutis to help spread seed and propagate new trees.Ĭhristina T Miller is a sustainable jewelry specialist who encourages leadership in positive social change and environmental protection. Recent research suggests that scatter-hoarding rodents such as agoutis may substitute for seed-dispersing megafauna that reigned the landscape ~10,000 years ago, allowing for many tree species to continue to flourish in the Amazon. When larger herbivores, like the giant ground sloth, once roamed the Amazon basin thousands of years ago, they consumed and passed seeds, facilitating seed dispersal for several tree species. In this relationship, Brazil nut tree seeds are effectively removed from the pod and distributed throughout the agouti’s habitat, and perhaps ultimately providing nourishment to an agouti if eaten, or sprouting and eventually growing into a mature tree. This scatter-hoarding behavior has led to a mutualism, or mutually beneficial relationship, between agoutis and Brazil nut trees. Agoutis are the only animals known with strong enough to teeth to break open the tough Brazil nut pod, and therefore are important in the seed dispersal process for the Brazil nut tree, a commercially valuable species. Ecological ImportanceĪgoutis engage in scatter-hoard behavior, in which they cache seeds beneath the soil, dig them up and rebury them again and again. This is because they need large areas to court and breed, and therefore do not thrive in captivity. While agoutis are capable of adapting to disturbed or non-forested area so long as sufficient cover is provided, they still depend on connected habitat patches. ThreatsĪccording to the IUCN red list, the Amazonian agouti species are of least conservation concern, while others are vulnerable to extinction or data deficient, meaning scientists are unable to evaluate their conservation status until further research is conducted. And they are fast and agile, capable of jumping several feet high and spinning while in mid-air to evade their many predators. Agoutis are quite territorial and mark their area with urine or other sources of pheromones. When neither fruits nor nuts are available, they will eat alternate food sources such as fungi, insects and plants. While fruit is their preferred food, agoutis are equipped with sharp incisors to crack the hard shell of nuts. They make their dens in burrows between boulders, roots and bushes or in tree hollows, often near swamps or other aquatic environments. Agoutis seek out habitat with dense cover because it offers protection from feline predators like coatimundis, jaguars and ocelots. They will also live in gardens or farmland so long as adequate ground cover is present. HabitatĪgoutis mostly inhabit lowland and montane tropical forests, but some live in drier environments like savanna or scrub lands. A few species, however, are more widely distributed in the Amazon rainforest, and those include the Black-rumped, Red-rumped and Black Agoutis. Most species exist in small habitat ranges in the tropical Americas – some are even restricted to single islands. Their fur comes in many shades of orange, brown and black, with individual hairs having alternating black and buff bands creating an agouti pattern. These small mammals may grow up to 2.5 feet long and weigh up to 13 pounds. Agoutis are rodents in the genus Dasyprocta, which consists of 12 known species found throughout Central and South America. Then again, making sure the arena never gets that crowded in the first place is key to the challenge.ĭespite the apparent simplicity of the controls and your abilities, there are plenty of ways to stay a step ahead of your enemies. This is especially true in the “late game” (beyond six or seven minutes in), when the visual clutter of pixelated enemies becomes so overwhelming that the real challenge is interpreting the mess on your screen to begin with. The graphics, intentionally dated by the jittering polygonal style and giant-pixel textures of the original Quake engine, may not make everyone feel fond with remembrance though. “It looks cool as hell anyway, with an aesthetic so satanic it verges on ridiculous. As I played more and more, I grew accustomed to the exact conditions and exact timing of moves that I needed to pull off before the next sequence began. It might be hard to believe at first, but there’s a consistent order to the waves of enemies that appear. Unlike other twitchy, reflex-based games from recent memory, this one doesn’t spawn your opponents randomly. The relentless thrill of blasting baddies and the smooth transition between the game over screen and a fresh start (tapping R instantly resets it at any time) make it easy to get sucked in, losing entire hours to the black hole of “ just one more try.”Īs simple as Devil Daggers’ run-and-gun routine may seem, there’s enough technical detail to make exploring and exploiting its various systems one chaotic hell of a good time. With the amount of intensity packed into a single second of gameplay, even a one-minute run can feel like an eternity. Hordes of floating skulls and disembodied demon heads spew out of tentacled behemoths, mindlessly giving chase while increasingly grotesque beasts spawn from all sides until the mobs become too overwhelming to fend off any longer. Two or more plants grown together make for a truly malevolent thicket of dark thorniness.Trying, failing, and trying again is a particularly brutal process in that abyss, where there’s always some new monstrosity threatening to cut your latest attempt short. Yellow flowers appear in midsummer, and give way to small green fruit that matures to bright yellow. Dense thorns adorn its dark purple stems and grow on the top and bottom of the leaves. atropurpureum, also known as “malevolence,” is a sturdy shrub, topping out at five feet tall at maturity with a similar spread. Plant along fence lines, in borders, in mass plantings of potential pain, or in containers to keep its size in check – just looking at one of these should send most thieves elsewhere!Īnother interesting species, S. It will self-seed easily, and even the tiniest saplings are viciously thorned. It requires a full sun location, with well-draining, organically rich soil, and consistent moisture – and it is not frost tolerant. Suitable for growers in Zones 9 to 11, this fast-growing evergreen shrub can reach a mature height of four feet, with a spread of up to three feet. pyracanthos is a member of the nightshade family, which includes potatoes, eggplant, and tomatoes. Native to Madagascar, the land of cuddly lemurs, S. Tiptoeing through your pretty flower bed, it’s an easy hop into your home for a quick getaway with your laptop. Under Windowsįirst floor windows are often an easy access point for burglars. This can provide a barrier to entry, but still allows you some visibility across your property. Plan your perimeter borders with larger, spiky species at the back, and smaller, equally unwelcoming specimens in front. Training climbing plants up and along the top of fencing is effective, as is careful placement of shrubs or bushes in vulnerable corners, or on the inside of large fences. Mischief-makers will also be put off by the prospect of leaving valuable clues and DNA behind for law-enforcement – like torn clothes or cut skin. The first line of defense for any property is the perimeter.Ī thorny climbing plant makes it difficult for would-be intruders to scale a fence, and a spiky hedge can make for a decorative natural barrier. In the case of a fire or other disaster, you don’t want your plantings to block your escape or cause injury – this is particularly important in the case of upstairs windows. Ensure that you keep in mind mature heights, and whether the species you choose is considered invasive in your area.īefore you plant, think about your escape routes carefully. When you choose plantings for your landscape, remember to check that they are suitable for your growing zone. On the verge of being as good as part one. Where's the new maps? The sequel to the hit tower strategy adventure TowerMadness is finally here. If you already know that a particular stage is gonna specialize in either ground aliens or flying aliens, start building either the ground cannon towers or the arrow towers, which hit ground aliens only or flying aliens only (in that specific order). Doing this will not only force them to be shot more times, but it will help save your sheep by extending the route on which the aliens have to walk. Line the towers up so that the aliens have to walk around them instead of walking through/in between them. These are the most basic towers in the game, but you can upgrade them by many many levels, and in the case of the plasma towers, they can go from so weak as to be nearly worthless, to so strong that you can defeat the boss with just a few towers, all in one round. Your best bets are to build the towers that shoot lasers and plasma, because those hit both the ground and air enemies. Even when they enter in multiple areas, though, they will still have to take just one path to exit the stage, so as much as possible, concentrate your artillery and your towers towards the end of the stage so that they will be in a path that allows them to hit every enemy.Ĭhoose your towers judiciously. "We were incentivising all our players to kill their guys because they wanted that wolf-arm or whatever."īut two things happened that began to shift the emphasis of Wildermyth. For example, characters who fell in battle could end up with permanent injuries like missing limbs, and then go on quests to have those injuries healed, or their bodies augmented into something greater. The original pitch for Wildermyth was a turn-based tactics game with League-style heroes at the centre, who evolved into those heroes as a consequence of your actions during battles. "That's something I really wanted to bring into our game, where it was about telling origin stories for all these crazy heroes where they start off as farmers but like somewhere along the line something happens… and they're transformed in these really visual ways." "One of the things that I really love about League Of Legends is the champ roster, and how different all of the League of Legends champs look and feel and play," he says. One of those improvements was to character progression, for which Nate was inspired by his work on League Of Legends. "Part of the inspiration was to just to take some of those ideas, and some improvements that we wanted to make, and put it into a fantasy setting, because we felt like that would fit better." But the three got together at thanksgiving one year and sketched out the rough idea of what would become Wildermyth. But we wanted a lot more detail about the soldiers." Nate was working for Riot Games at the time, while Annie at Heavy Iron and then at Gamesalad, and Doug was finishing college. "And we love the stories that are generated. "All three of us had been playing X-COM a lot," says Nate, who co-owns Worldwalker Games with Annie, and is the primary programmer on the project. But when Nate Austin, his wife Annie, and his brother Doug began developing the game around eight years ago, the weight of emphasis between storytelling and combat was very much the other way around. Wildermyth is an inspired example of narrative design, with some nifty tactical combat to boot. In this spellbinding RPG, players guide bands of heroes through a lifetime of adventure, embarking on dozens of short, whimsical quests wherein they grow, age, and quite literally evolve, with the potential to transform into walking trees, celestial beings, and anthropomorphised crows. Whether the product discovery is via influencers, ads, or brands themselves, the job of an influencer has become a must for brands over the last decade.ĭid you know that 10 years ago the iPhone 3G was the most popular device? It just so happens, that same year (2010), Facetime AND the first iPad launched. Today, 60% of users credit Instagram with product discovery and there are currently over 500,000 influencers on its platform alone. Once the platform gained some speed in the market, companies jumped on board and the numbers proved its worth. Speaking of hashtags, where would Influencers be without the way we find them? The first known Instagram Influencer, Caroline Calloway, had ‘only’ 850,000 followers in 2018, but she started in 2012. Other social media platforms then followed suit as its usage increased across ages and companies, resulting in our regular (and occasional over-)usage. Twitter adopted it in 2009 by linking them on the main page for users, and the usage skyrocketed. In 2007, he sparked usage for the hashtag to help track, find, search, and utilize easily, all with one symbol. We owe all of our hashtag love and admiration to Chris Messina, a former Google employee who realized the techies had something going with their usage of it. What did we ever do without random facts, conversations/interviews, comedy, career tips and so much more via a touch of a button on our phones? In 2010, the winner of the People’s Choice was Tell ‘em Steve Dave! The 20 winners, however, were both about fantasy football: ESPN Fantasy Focus Football and The Fantasy Footballers respectively. The Podcast Awards began in 2005 with 16 categories. Its rise, however, didn’t really come around until about 2008 when 19% of internet users had downloaded a podcast. While the very first podcast was technically created in 2001 by the BBC, the first upload to an iPod was in 2004. And on Facebook, one in five videos is now a live broadcast. People now watch an average of 16 hours of online video per week. Video and live streaming is a very powerful tool, both for business and fun alike. YouTube’s first live stream was in 2008 and today, over 500 hours of video are uploaded to the platform every minute! They essentially became the launch pad for other companies like Hulu and eventually Spotify, but it also aided the technology to be used for every user to live stream.
